Collection: Mermaid Prawns

The Mermaid Prawns and Mermaid Shrimp label rights were purchased by the Maggioni family from Augustus Oemler of Wilmington Island, GA in 1924. They also purchased some of the Oemler family’s oyster beds in Georgia around that time. The Maggioni family still has in possession the original hand drawn oyster bed lease map, showing the location of the beds. The original label art from Augustus Oemler had the mermaid’s breasts bare, but the Food & Drug Administration requested that the breasts be covered for future use of the labels!
