Coosaw Oysters

The Maggioni family owned a shucking plant at the end of Sams Point Road on Lady’s Island along the Coosaw River. Lady’s Island was also the location for the last privately owned cannery on the eastern seaboard, owned by L.P. Maggioni & Company. This cannery closed in 1985.
